The Other New Grad!

June 30, 2007 at 10:08 pm (Uncategorized)

I almost plum forgot. :) My other sister-in-law, Laurie (Jeff’s wife) graduated this spring as well…from law school! She went to George Mason University in the Washington, DC area. She is now studying for the Virginia bar exam and will be taking it in July (I think). She’ll start her new job working for a judge in August. We are so proud of her! I miss her and Jeff so much…we should see them in Huntsville over Thanksgiving (Jeff’s in-laws live in Huntsville and so do mine…how convenient!). We love you Laurie!!

I passed!

I got my EMT results today, and I passed! So I’m now a certified Emergency Medical Technician. Trust me, I know how scary that will be to some people in my town! Ha!

an update on the last month of our lives

June 16, 2007 at 1:44 am (Uncategorized)

So, the last month of our lives was a doozie. First of all, Chad lost his job at Farrar. Big blow to his ego and our checkbook. Not good. That meant I had to close the coffee shop, since we were not even “breaking even” and had been paying the shop rent out of our own pockets. With the new month of June quickly approaching, we had to make the (heartbreaking for me) decision to close. It was so sad, like losing a friend. I put my heart and soul into that project and it really was sad for our family.

Then, towards the end of May, we had to finish out our EMT class. The last two weeks are very stressful because we are preparing for the skills part of our State Board, and we have class every night of the week, except weekends, from 6-10 pm. So, while job hunting during the day relentlessly, we spent our evenings in class, working at “beating the clock”, trying to get our skill stations done in the time allotted for each one.

Chad elected not to take the State Board, upon the recommendation of our instructor, due to his balance issues. Our instructor felt Chad could be held liable if he accidentally fell on a patient, etc. Chad was okay with the decision. I went to Topeka on the 2nd and 3rd of June and took the State Boards. I passed the skills part and am awaiting my score on the written test (should be here within about 3-5 weeks from now).

This will be good if I need to get a job as an EMT at a Wichita hospital. They do hire EMTs as Patient Care Technicians, but they won’t even look at my application until I have my certification card in hand.

I have applied for countless jobs, have had three job interviews, and am awaiting news from a couple of those jobs. Please pray that I will find something soon. Our insurance ran out the end of May and that is always a stressful thing when you don’t have it.

Chad has an interview on the 25th at Wichita State in their financial aid department. It looks like a job that would be right up his alley, and we could use your prayers on his behalf as well.

He is still preaching part-time, thankfully, so we have our house, and that salary to keep us going. Our church family is awesome and we love them dearly for their support of us.

It’s been a “whale” of a month, and I feel like Jonah!

P.S. In brighter news, here’s my sweet niece Chloe. Isn’t she a DOLL?
